How do I tune my Rickenbacker 325 John Lennon?

The Lennon Rickenbacker is a bit tricky to tune because the neck is 3/4 the size of a standard guitar (25.5 inches). The trick is to use 'Flatwound Gold Heavy - True Vintage' strings that are designed for the Lennon 325. Second, tune the guitar a half step down than standard guitar tuning. (Half step down tuning is also used by The Edge, Van Halen, and lots of other rockers.)

This is how Lennon kept his 325 in tune.

Go to www.thestringguy.com to purchase them in value packs of 3.

What is the difference between a Kramer/ESP Nightswan and a USA Nightswan?

Your not the first to ask this question. The body of the USA models are made of mahogany, have ebony fretboards with 'ping pong dot' fret markers, and say Nightswan at the very end of the headstock. The Kramer/ESP models have bodies made of alder, rosewood fretboards, some have the ping pong dot fret markers and some don't. This depends on the model of Kramer/ESP you are purchasing. Nightswan is not written on the headstock. Both come standard with Floyd Rose Locking Tremolo Systems, Seymour Duncan Full Shred Humbuckers in the bridge position and Seymour Duncan JB's in the middle position, as is the one that we for sale on this site in a rare Burgundy Mist color. Tonal speaking, they are virtually identical.

Can a Floyd Rose directly replace the Takeuchi bridges?

Yes! A Floyd Rose Tremolo System can directly replace a Takeuchi Tremolo System without any modification to the body. Simply remove the Takeuchi, put it up for auction on eBay, and replace it with the Floyd. No muss, no fuss.

What do you ship your guitars in?

Good question. The guitar is carefully wrapped in bubble wrap, then inserted inside a gig bag, then placed inside of a guitar shipping box with padding protection on the inside, so the guitar doesnt move. We call this the 'elephant stomp proof' method. We have shipped hundreds of guitars around the world (even once to Kazakhstan), and have never had any problems. Bodies and necks are also carefully shipped in the same manner as well.

I live in Taiwan, which is much closer and cheaper to ship to than your World Wide Shipping price offers, can I get a shipping discount?

Thanks for your question. True, even though Taiwan is much closer to our warehouse in Japan, than say Europe, the website lists the same amount for shipping to both destinations. (An amount very different I might add.) If the country of shipping is cheaper than what the World Wide shipping price lists on the website, the difference in amount will be returned to you via Paypal. We only charge what the EMS Japanese Postal Service charges us. You can also contact us before your purchase and we can make the adjustment beforehand.

I live in Hawaii, is there a shipping discount due to its proximity?

Sorry. EMS treats packages going anywhere in the U.S. and its territories as the same price. Whether its going to Hawaii, Maine or Puerto Rico, it's all the same U.S. rate. (Not our idea)

Tommy, I am a pilot for United Airlines, can I pick up my guitar in person?

Come on down! We'll have dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. I'll trade you a set of strings for a bag of peanuts!

What is the most remote country you have sent a guitar to?

It was to a U.N. worker from Britain that was stationed in Kazakhstan. He ordered a black Fender Telecaster '72 Custom (its the Tele with the chrome Fender Wide Range humbucker in the neck position). I was told that the guitar was delivered to his Yurt (tent) by camel. No kidding. (It arrived without a scratch or poop.)

Have there been any guitars that you regret selling?

Don't remind me. Working in a guitar shop is a lot like working in a pet shop. The more time you spend playing with a pet, the less you want to let it go. There have a been a few guitars that I've regretted selling: a 4 digit JV Butterscotch Blonde Fender Telecaster that went to New Mexico, a '79 Schecter Black Telecaster, a '89 Clapton Blackie, a '65 Hofner Bass, the list goes on. Now I only play guitars to check their sound and intonation during setup, that's it. Afterwards, I put them in the warehouse and try not to think about them. Particularly the ones I like. It's a heartbreaking job.

Have you ever had an famous customers?

Funny that you ask. When we first opened our shop, one of our first customers was the Singer/Diva Donna 'Hot Stuff' Summer. She bought a Rocktek Chorus guitar pedal for her son. Really Hot Stuff!
